My neighbor’s ride on wouldn’t start so I brought mine over for him to use. I go to start it and all I get is that machine gun sound from the starter. How do I get mine fixed? It’s a husq var na. I’ve moved the engine by hand and the starter wheel. No luck. the battery is fine. I road it across the street so it did start today. I’m not getting a a signal click which i think would be a bad starter soliniod, its a rapid click and will click as long as i am turning the key

You’re able to turn the engine by hand but the starter isn’
t -
that’s
what I’m reading
, right? I’d make sure the battery is fully charged (put a charger on it to be sure) and make sure the wiring between battery, switch, solenoid, and starter motor is in good shape.

I thought if the battery was low you would get one clunk sound, not the rapid ticking. I could be wrong. I have it on a charger now.

It can be at a point where it has
enough power to pull in the solenoid, but then that draw is enough to drop the voltage low enough that it can’t hold the solenoid in. It drops out, and the battery recovers enough to pull it in, and so on. T
he result is the rapid tick-tick-tick-tick as opposed to a single one.

Yea. The thing that has me was that it started once. I guess it just didn’t have it in it to do it twice. It seems like it was a t low attery

Could be like my tractor, which doesn’t charge properly. About once a year I have to take the battery inside overnight and recharge it. I’d fix it, but charging the battery annually is easier than removing the whole engine to get to the generator.

Starter going bad, contacts in solenoid could have buildup, low amps on battery. Soo many possibilities for a simple problem :)
